Marts Book Corner: Spitfire Pilot by FLight Lieutenant David Crook DFC

When I was a young lad I wanted to join the RAF like my grandfather who flew Typhoons in WW2.  I desperately wanted to fly a Spitfire, its such a beautiful machine.  When I got older and realised they did not use them any more I lost interest in the idea.  But did not loose my love for aviation or that magnificent shape.  The mother in law picked this up for me for Christmas as it had been out of print for many years.
"Spitfire Pilot" was written in 1940.........

Stat Trek Attack wing Vulcan D`kyr ship build

In this ship build we look at the Vulcan forces again.  I really like them for some reason.  they are not considered the best, but I enjoy using them, and I think you can create some fun and interesting builds.  so lets look at the D`kyr.  As always no more then 50points, and only using the cards in the pack to get the most out of the ship.
So lets dive in and see what we can do....

Battle of Greenbrier River West Virginia October 3rd 1861 Battle Cry battle report

Time for another battle report for you from Battle Cry, with me taking the role as the Confederates, and Olivia commanding the Union forces.  So far the Confederates have won all the battles we have fought, will luck change for the Union forces?

The Battle of Greenbrier River, also known as the Battle of Camp Bartow, took place on October 3, 1861 in Pocahontas County, Virginia (now West Virginia) as part of the Operations in Western Virginia Campaign during the American Civil War.

In mid-September 1861 Confederate troops established Camp Bartow in the Cheat Mountain Area. The Confederates, under the command of General William B. Taliaferro, had the advantage of knowing the land but their numbers were greatly reduced due to sickness. Taliaferro had reported that his army had been reduced to one-third strength.

Controlling the Union forces in Cheat Mountain and Tygart's Valley was General Joseph J. Reynolds. Reynolds’ army's spirits had been heartened due to their success in repelling General William W. Loring's troops. Reynolds believed that he would be able to defeat Taliaferro and clear the mountain for a quick route to Virginia. For two days it rained non-stop and due to the cold weather both troops lost men.

Reynolds troops began to move at midnight on October 2, 1861 and by daylight they entered Greenbrier, roughly four miles from the Confederate camp.

At 8 o’clock in the morning the Confederate soldiers guarding the camp left their posts and the Union soldiers entered the Confederate camp. Upon opening fire, the Confederate Army was having trouble working their weapons and while they were trying to fix them they were forced to move out into the open due to the Union armies significant firepower.
When Colonel John B.Baldwin, who was in charge of the 52nd Virginia Infantry, heard the gunshots he immediately left camp with all of his men and went to help the Confederates. By the time they reached the battlefield they thought it was too late, but when the Union army saw more men coming they continued to fire and the battle continued for approximately five more hours. Reynolds ordered his troops to return to Cheat Mountain breaking off the battle.

After the battle was finished both sides realized the losses were not great. In an attempt to appear superior both the Union and the Confederates increased the enemies losses and both reported that they had lost around three-hundred men. When the results were calculated the Union had eight men killed and thirty-five men wounded. The Confederates had lost six men, had thirty-three wounded, and thirteen men missing. The result of the Battle of Greeenbrier River was inconclusive.

Lets see how it played out on the tabletop.......

Star Trek Attack Wing Koronak ship build

Today we look at the Cardassian Keldon class ship the Koranak.  What can we build from the pack that follows the standard 50pts or less rule, and only using the cards in the pack?  Well there are a couple of very good builds I want to try in this pack so lets look at the first one.
The Koranak is a solid ship, with good firepower and hull.  its named ability allows you split its attack with its primary weapon at the cost of a scan action.  It allows some flexibility with firepower to hit where I need to, if I do not need all the shots to finish a cripple ship, I can just chuck a few dice, then concentrate the rest where it needs to be.  Gul Dukat is the Captain, with a skill 7, he is a solid choice.  His ability allows you to get a free evade or battlestations each turn.  For his elite talent I have taken captured intelligence.  It allows you to place an evade if you don't have one, and get an extra defence dice that turn.  Combined with Dukats battlestations  you can dodge things well.  When you add the cloaking device as well, which allows you to cloak and gain the sensor echo ability.  This ship can run and cloak, or stay and fight, it adds some versatility.  Boheeka takes the crew role, if you have a battlestations token beside your ship when you attack you can convert a blank into a hit.  He works well with Dukats free battlestations.  For Tech I added the cloaking device, it allows the ship to cloak and sensor echo adding some tricks to its arsenal.  For weapons we have the dorsal weapons arrya, which is only 3 attack, but attacks in any direction giving you that cover when you need it.  And enhanced weaponry to add that 6 dice punch if its needed at range.

Now there is another alternate build I wanted to try, so lets take a look.....

Star Trek Attack Wing Kumari Andorian battle cruiser ship build.

In this Ship build article we find ourselves deep in Andorian space, looking at the Kumari Androrian Battle Cruiser.  It is one of my favourite models, its just great looking.  As with all the build articles, no more than 50 points, and only using the cards that come in the pack.

Star Trek Attack Wing USS Valiant ship build

Today we take a trip to the Utopia Planitia ship yards to take a look at fitting out the USS Valiant for battle.  She's a Defiant Class, so is very manoeuvrable for a Federation ship already, but what can we do to make the most from her?  Using the usual rules of nor more then 50 points, and only using the cards in the pack.
Lets take a look and see what we have and how we can use her.....

Star Trek Attack Wing ATR 4107 Dreadnought ship build

Today takes us deep into Cardassian space as we look at the ATR 4107, specifically the Dreadnought for the Dominion forces.  As always only cards that came in the pack are used, and no more then 50 points.
The Dreadnought is fast, doesn't really turn to well though, but that's generally normal with Cardassian ships.  She does how ever hit very very hard with an attack of 6, and is solid with 4 hull and 5 shields.  The named ships ability allows you to discard up to 2 upgrades to cancel an equal amount of attack dice.  Not something I intend to really use, but handy in a pinch.

Lets take a closer look..........

Star Trek Attack Wing Denorios Bajoran Lightship ship build

Todays ship yard comes from the hangers of DS9, after Ben Sisko has finished tinkering with the antique designs of a Bajoran Lightship Solar Sailor.  As always no more than 50 points, and only using the cards that come in the pack.
She's not fast, she has no shields, and only a 1 strength weapon.  She is nimble though, and very cheap. but can anything fun or useful be done with her?  Lets see.......

Star Trek Attack Wing Robinson ship Build

Time for another visit to the shipyards to see what we can make of the Robinson.  ITs a captured Jem Hadar Attack Ship used by the Federation for covert missions in the Dominion War.
Using the normal rules of only cards that came in its pack, and costing no more than 50 points lets see what we can come up with
Lets take a closer look and see what shes like.......

Zvezda JU 87 Stuka kit 1/144 scale unboxing and review

Looking for some air support for my Germans for Flames of War, I thought I would get a Stuka.  Zvezda do a Stuka model, and for only £3 I thought it well worth a look.

The Junkers Ju 87 or Stuka (from Sturzkampfflugzeug, "dive bomber") was a two-man (pilot and rear gunner) German dive bomber and ground-attack aircraft. Designed by Hermann Pohlmann, the Stuka first flew in 1935 and made its combat debut in 1936 as part of the Luftwaffe's Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War.

The aircraft was easily recognisable by its inverted gull wings and fixed spatted undercarriage. Upon the leading edges of its faired maingear legs were mounted the Jericho-Trompete ("Jericho trumpet") wailing sirens, becoming the propaganda symbol of German air power and the blitzkrieg victories of 1939–1942. The Stuka's design included several innovative features, including automatic pull-up dive brakes under both wings to ensure that the aircraft recovered from its attack dive even if the pilot blacked out from the high g-forces.

Although sturdy, accurate, and very effective against ground targets, the Ju 87, like many other dive bombers of the war, was vulnerable to modern fighter aircraft. Its flaws became apparent during the Battle of Britain; poor manoeuvrability and a lack of both speed and defensive armament meant that the Stuka required a heavy fighter escort to operate effectively.

The Stuka operated with further success after the Battle of Britain, and its potency as a precision ground-attack aircraft became valuable to German forces in the Balkans Campaign, the African and Mediterranean theaters and the early stages of the Eastern Front campaigns where Soviet fighter resistance was disorganised and in short supply.

Once the Luftwaffe lost air superiority on all fronts, the Ju 87 once again became an easy target for enemy fighter aircraft. In spite of this, because there was no better replacement, the type continued to be produced until 1944. By the end of the conflict, the Stuka had been largely replaced by ground-attack versions of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190, but was still in use until the last days of the war. An estimated 6,500 Ju 87s of all versions were built between 1936 and August 1944.

Some notable airmen flew the Ju 87. Oberst Hans-Ulrich Rudel was the most successful Stuka ace and the most highly decorated German serviceman of the Second World War. The vast majority of German ground attack aces flew this aircraft at some point in their careers.

Lets take a look inside the box at the kit.

Arkham Horror from Fantasy flight Games review

Todays article isn't going to be too in depth, Arkham Horror is an older game, and my copy is "Well Loved" shall we say, and hard used, but that goes to show the sheer depth of the game, and massive replay value just from its core set alone.  Instead of the normal unboxing and mechanics, its going to be a quicker overview of the game, just to give you an idea, and if its something you like... go give it a try, its a classic and easily available.  Its a great game for solo fans of the mythos, or up to 8 players to enjoy.

I recall that the people went about with pale and worried faces, and whispered warnings and prophecies which no one dared consciously repeat or acknowledge to himself that he had heard. A sense of monstrous guilt was upon the land, and out of the abysses between the stars swept chill currents that made men shiver in dark and lonely places.
   –H.P. Lovecraft, Nyarlathotep

It is the roaring 20s, and while there’s electricity in the air, unnatural storms are brewing as well. Strange things are happening in the small Massachusetts town of Arkham: people have gone missing, sightings of indescribable creatures grow more and more frequent, the very air thickens with a sense of foreboding that roils like an acrid mist through the streets. The Ancient Ones are stirring…
Designed for one to eight players, Arkham Horror is a cooperative adventure game of survival, horror, and investigation. A terrible creature from beyond time and space—an Ancient One—is awakening, roused by dimensional gates that open across the city. Players take on the role of investigators, each with a unique backstory, abilities, and equipment. Joining forces, the investigators must secure the city, encountering its haunted and mysterious locations before the Ancient One awakens. If the Ancient One awakens and defeats the players in the final battle, all of Arkham is doomed.

Elder Signs core set Investigators overview

Time to delve into the Investigators that come in the core set of Elder Signs.  Each have their own ability, starting equipment load out, and stamina/sanity.

We start with Amanda Sharpe - The Student.  With a stamina of 5 and a sanity of 5 she is nicely balanced.  She starts with any 2 items from the spell, common, or unique deck, you get to choose which decks to draw from.  This is great as it lets you decide a nice spread, and what her role will be.  Her ability studious is excellent, it lets you complete any number of tasks per roll.   On a location with 2 challenges, one that needs a skull, and one that needs a skull and a terror... if you roll all those in your first roll you can shut the investigation down in one hit instead of worrying if you re-roll the ones you need.  She is great for challenges with multiple tasks [M: this comes up more often than you'd think! Especially if there are several tasks that need just one or two dice].

Bob Jenkins - The Salesman has a sanity of 4, and a stamina of 6, so better for the physical tasks.  He starts with 2 common and 1 unique item, potentially giving you a large starting dice pool.  His ability Shrewd dealer gains you an extra common item whenever you collect a common item, so you can stack up on his equipment to get plenty of choices.

Star Wars Imperial Assault Kayn Somos Villain Pack unboxing and reveiw

A Long time ago in a galaxy far far away we looked at Star Wars Imperial Assault from Fantasy Flight Games.  This model pack will replace the card token from The Twin shadows expansion, and add more to your game too, even if you do not have the Twin shadows, you can still get plenty of use from it.

“Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise.”

–Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars: A New Hope

The white armor of Imperial Stormtroopers is a symbol of the Empire’s might across the galaxy. These highly trained soldiers are the iron fist of the Emperor, crushing dissension and spreading fear everywhere. Some Stormtrooper officers even exceed their soldiers in ruthlessness, and few are more feared than Kayn Somos, the Stormtrooper commander stationed on Tatooine. With the Kayn Somos Villain Pack, you can bring this trooper’s powerful leadership and unforgiving methods to your games of Imperial Assault!

The Kayn Somos Villain Pack offers a sculpted plastic figure of Kayn Somos to replace the token found in the Twin Shadows expansion which is one I don't have. Of course, like other Ally Packs and Villain Packs, this expansion offers far more than a plastic figure. Three new missions expand both the campaign game and the skirmish game, while new Agenda cards, Deployment cards, and Command cards invite you to pursue cunning new tactics in any mission.

So lets pop it open and take a look.....

Marts Book Corner - The Most Dangerous Enemy: A History of the Battle of Britan by Stephen Bungay

For this Book Corner we look the Most Dangerous Enemy a book about the Battle of Britain, taking us back to the dark days of 1940.

Already hailed as the standard work, The Most Dangerous Enemy is an authoritative history of the British battle that galvanized the public imagination and symbolized the destiny of a nation. But in this rigorous re-investigation of the Battle of Britain, Stephen Bungay tells a story full of revelations. Whether assessing the development of radar or the relative merits of the Spitfire, Hurricane, and Messerschmitt, he uncovers the unexpected truth behind many time-honored myths. Not only a major work of modern history but also a truly compelling narrative, The Most Dangerous Enemy confirms the Battle of Britain as.....

Marts Book Corner - Dunkirk: Fight To The Last Man by Hugh Sebag-Montefiore

Time to dive back into book corner, I am always looking for a good interesting and accurate read.  Most of my books are military history, its what I enjoy reading most, and when my dearly beloved presented me with this one, I was very interested.

Dunkirk: Fight to the Last Man tells the story of the rescue in May 1940 of British soldiers fleeing capture and defeat by the Nazis at Dunkirk. Dunkirk was not just about what happened at sea and on the beaches. The evacuation would never have succeeded had it not been for the tenacity of the British soldiers who stayed behind to ensure they got away.

Men like Sergeant Major Gus Jennings who died smothering a German stick bomb in the church at Esquelbecq in an effort to save his comrades, and Captain Marcus Ervine-Andrews VC who single-handedly held back a German attack on the Dunkirk perimeter thereby allowing the British line to form up behind him. Told to stand and fight to the last man, these brave few battalions fought......

Lord of the Rings the card game Khazad-Dum expansion

As long term readers will know, im rather a fan of the Lord of the Rings lcg from Fantasy Flight games, and a huge fan of the world of middle earth, so I was really looking forward to getting deeper into the game, and then I saw this expansion.... Khazad Dum, a place I loved in the books, so full of history and sadness, a place i wanted to spend much more time exploring, and Gimlis song of Durin said it best.....

The world was young, the mountains green,
No stain yet on the Moon was seen,
No words were laid on stream or stone
When Durin woke and walked alone.
He named the nameless hills and dells;
He drank from yet untasted wells;
He stooped and looked in Mirrormere,
And saw a crown of stars appear,
As gems upon a silver thread,
Above the shadow of his head.

The world was fair, the mountains tall,
In Elder Days before the fall
Of mighty kings in Nargothrond
And Gondolin, who now beyond
The Western Seas have passed away:
The world was fair in Durin's Day.

A king he was on carven throne
In many-pillared halls of stone
With golden roof and silver floor,
And runes of power upon the door.
The light of sun and star and moon
In shining lamps of crystal hewn
Undimmed by cloud or shade of night
There shone for ever fair and bright.

There hammer on the anvil smote,
There chisel clove, and graver wrote;
There forged was blade, and bound was hilt;
The delver mined, the mason built.
There beryl, pearl, and opal pale,
And metal wrought like fishes' mail,
Buckler and corslet, axe and sword,
And shining spears were laid in hoard.

Unwearied then were Durin's folk;
Beneath the mountains music woke:
The harpers harped, the minstrels sang,
And at the gates the trumpets rang.

The world is grey, the mountains old,
The forge's fire is ashen-cold;
No harp is wrung, no hammer falls:
The darkness dwells in Durin's halls;
The shadow lies upon his tomb
In Moria, in Khazad-dûm.
But still the sunken stars appear
In dark and windless Mirrormere;
There lies his crown in water deep,
Till Durin wakes again from sleep.

It has always stuck with me, certainly the last verse, it really shows the sadness that has settled on the place, it was not just a "mine" but a true glorious full of light splendor of the world.

"For a while we had news and it seemed good: messages reported that Moria had been entered and a great work begun there. Then there was silence, and no word has ever come from Moria since."   –Glóin, The Fellowship of the Ring

It has been many years since the Dwarves last heard from Balin. Now the heroes of Middle-earth must search for signs of him and his fledgling Dwarven colony. Khazad-dûm is the first deluxe expansion for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, expanding your game with 165 new cards. Two Dwarf heroes offer their services, and players gain the benefit of new player cards (three copies of each) while facing new scenarios filled with perilous locations and a menacing host of enemies.
Time to pop this open and take a look, do not worry though we will only be looking at player cards, so no spoilers of the quest and their results, or the kind of horrors you may face deep in the dark beneath the world.

Mansions of Madness Suppressed Memories Figure and Tile collection unboxing and review

Lets just say I am VERY fond of the Mansions of Madness 2nd edition from Fantasy Flight Games, and if you have not checked it out yet, you really need to, its excellent.  It plays solo, or multiplayer cooperatively, and is full of theme, and great gameplay.  There are some expansiosn out for it, so I thought we should take alook at those too, see whats in them, and if they add anything worth getting...

Plunge deep into the mysteries of Arkham with the Suppressed Memories Figure and Tile Collection. Combine the figures and map tiles in this collection with your Mansions of Madness Second Edition conversion (which comes int he core game box so you already have this) kit to unlock alternate maps for your existing scenarios and gain access to one new spine-chilling adventure. Play as your favorite characters from the Mansions of Madness expansions, battling old terrors once again as you struggle to find the truth and maintain your sanity.

“It was—well, it was mostly a kind of force that doesn’t belong in our part of space; a kind of force that acts and grows and shapes itself by other laws than those of our sort of Nature. We have no business calling in such things from outside, and only very wicked people and very wicked cults ever try to."

 –H.P. Lovecraft, The Dunwich Horror
You've never been one to look too closely at the the socially uncomfortable or curiously odd developments around you. When the farm animals began to behave strangely, you watched silently, and when one of them disappeared, you shrugged it off as an abnormality. When an unusual bout of weather arrived, from neither east nor west, but seemingly without origin at all, you thought perhaps you should be more observant of the patterns in the sky. But when great clusters of trees were bent and broken at the root, as if a meteor had careened into them, leaving no trace, and when the cattle's docile nature turned foul and aggressive, you couldn't hold back your curiosity, your awareness of the wrongness of it all. Something unnatural had descended on Dunwich, bringing with it an eerie sense of secrecy which has dangerously intrigued you. Unfortunately, you seem to be standing in the way of whatever otherworldly forces have orchestrated these events, and they have no problem eliminating the obstacles in their path.

Suppressed Memories Figure & Tile Collection is the second collection released to expand your Mansions of Madness Second Edition game using components from Mansions of Madness First Edition. The eight investigator figures, fifteen monster figures, and seventeen double-sided map tiles included in Suppressed Memories mirror the contents of the two first edition expansions, Forbidden Alchemy and Call of the WildSuppressed Memories will also give players access to one brand new horrifying scenario, Cult of Sentinel Hill. The scenario will also be playable by owners of Call of the Wild, with more variations available to those who have Forbidden Alchemy in their collection as well.

Lets pop the box open, and see what lurks within!

The Nin-in-Eilph adventure pack for the Lord of The Rings the card game from Fantasy Flight Games

I have been having some great fun with the Lord of the Rings the card game, its a truly excellent game, though it is a tad scary and daunting how many adventure packs are out there, and hard to get them in order, so I grab them when I can, and if I do not have earlier ones, then its fine, they can sit and wait until I do, as the player cards inside will certainly prove useful in the mean time, expanding on my deck building options, and hopefully making life easier until I reach these quests.

At first they made fair progress, but as they went on, their passage became slower and more dangerous. The marshes were bewildering and treacherous, and there was no permanent trail even for Rangers to find through their shifting quagmires.     –J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

The Nîn-in-Eilph is the fourth Adventure Pack in The Ring-maker cycle for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game.

After slipping out of the ancient, ruined city of Tharbad, past a host of Orcs and spies, several of Middle-earth’s greatest heroes begin a journey through the Nîn-in-Eilph and its treacherous marshlands. They seek a hidden site on the other side of the marsh, in Hollin, which is rumored to be full of powerful secrets that may provide the White Council some means to work against the Dark Lord. However, your heroes have no time to lose because the Dark Lord’s servants have also learned of the hidden location within Hollin…
Among its sixty new cards, which also include a new hero and three copies of each new player card, The Nîn-in-Eilph introduces a deadly new scenario that challenges players to explore and survive the swamps of the Nîn-in-Eilph. Full of deadly Creatures, the swamps haven’t been travelled for an age, and no paths exist to lead your heroes through the shifting bogs. You’ll also find a new hero, and three copies of each new player card, several of which permit new interactions with the first player token, representing the leadership and assistance that other companions can offer.

Today so we do not give away any spoilers to the scenario, and story we will just be looking at the player cards that come in the pack, not any scenarios, or encounter decks.  So whats inside?

Elder Sign Ancient ones Overview

As you know, I am a big fan of Elder Sign.  Its a great game, so I thought it would be time to take a look at the Ancient ones that come in the standard game, as some are a lot tougher than others!
We start looking at Yog-Sothoth.  To defeat him you will need to gather 10 elder signs, and with a  doom track of 10, you will need to make sure you up to the task.  Should he awaken when you go to fight him, you must discard a trophy or be devoured (be removed from the game) so make sure you have some spare in case he wakes up.  To defeat him you will need to roll 2 scrolls, and a 3 investigate, so he is no walkover.  His innate ability is that if you fail an otherworld adventure the card is removed from the game, and if they are all gone he awakens, so he could wake up early as a nasty surprise.  Keep an eye on that deck!

Yig has a doom track of 8, and needs 10 elder signs to defeat him. When he is the ancient one in the game, each time you lose on a cultist task or an investigator is reduced to 0 sanity you lose an elder sign, so a key hint is to keep an eye on your investigators, and if a cultist is on a challenge, make sure you go in tooled up to take him down.  Should Yig Awaken, you will need 2 skulls to reduce his tracker and harm him.  When he wakes up it can be deadly, as you must lose a spell, a common item and a unique item.  If you do not you are devoured, so if you are just missing one of those things you will be killed.

When he attacks you must lose a clue token, or lose a sanity and a stamina, so he can really wear you down quickly.

Next up we have......

Star Trek Attack Wing Trager and Assimilated Vessel 64758 Borg and Dominion Builds

We look at the builds we can do with this ship, or to be more accurate these ships.  I do one for the Dominion, and one for the Dominion Borg version.  As always, I keep within 50 points and use only cards from the pack itself.

First we look at the Dominon build.  The Thr Trager can add some defence bonus, with its inbuilt ability to use its shields to soak hits, Glinn Daro can make sure the shields stay up.  Gul Macet adds firepower, and allows you to use Truce which again makes this ship very survivable.  It is powerful in offence, and defence, but like all Galor`s turns like a cruise ship.  It does have a wide 180 degree front arc though for a good wide range of fire.

Next the Borg....

Super fast, highly manouverable and conceived by General Dodonna, the RZ-1 A-wing interceptor proved its worth by crippling Star Destroyers during the Battle of Endor.
Lets see what the Awing adds to your fleet...

Star Trek Attack Wing storage on a budget

Just a quick little article to show you how I am storing my Attack wing goodies on a budget.
I use the game box to keep my mission cards, and objective tokens in to keep them safe, and a selection of pound shop boxes for my tokens and ships.  These are great value items to keep them safe together for a good price.

next to keep the card in we have....

Standard card deckboxes, available for around a pound each in the right places.  I want more to have a box for each faction.

Another hobby box keeps everything all neat and easy to access for your games.

You do not need to spend big money to get good efficient storage, so look round, see what you can use and let us know!

Star Wars Armada Victory Class Star Destroyer unboxing

The largest and most powerful of the starships from the Armada Core Set, and now available separately,  the Victory-class Star Destroyer formed the core of the Imperial Navy at the outset of the Galactic Civil War. These ships measure roughly nine-hundred meters in length, sport crews numbering over five-thousand, and feature a dagger-shaped design that allows them to concentrate nearly all their weapons on their forward firing arcs.
Its a massive box! but then its a big ship, and I love how the Victory class looks.  You may think why get another when the core set comes with one.  Well , you can never have enough, and the two Victory class ships form a solid backbone to your fleet, plus the new admiral and cards that come in this set.
Lets take a look and see.....

Star Trek Attack Wing USS Enterprise - E Sovereign class build

The Enterprise E is such a great looking ship.  So I take a look at builds for it using only the cards that came in the pack.

It is another ship that suffers for the 50 point limit, so here is the 50 version of it.  The ship is fast but not very nimble, has solid across the boards stats though.  Its inbuilt ability is you can fire torpedoes with out a target lock for the cost of an auxiliary power.  For captain we have Picard.  This is a different version to the starter set, he allows you to pick a faction at the start of the game. When you attack that faction you roll one less attack dice, but add a critical hit, so its a auto crit really.  It also gives you plus one defence against that that faction.  For weapons we have the photons, fired from a sovereign class its a plus one so 6 dice attack.  and the Dorsal Phaser array which allows you to fire 30 degrees.  These weapons make this a true warship to be feared.

What else can it do with out the point restrictions? plenty so lets see....

Gamers Grass dry tufts for basing review

I am sure you have seen before on the odd model i paint, that basing... is something that i like to keep simple, and usually only use static grass.  Well i am trying to change it, and i have seen great things with these tuft type bits of basing.  knowing i can not compete with it, i thought why not pick some up, and give them a try, just for the sake of something different.

Gamers Grass provides a range of grass and scenic products in a variety of colours. These self adhesive basing tufts come in a variety of sizes and colours. Most tufts are 4-6mm tall. XL tufts are approximately 12mm tall. Moss and Bright Green are about 2mm tall.
Pack contains 2 sheets of tuft approximately 8 cm by 6 cm in length. Each sheet contains approximately 25 individual tufts of varying sizes. Some of the smaller tufts have more tufts per sheet.

Lets crack it open and take a closer look...

Javis Countryside Scenics Battlezone Field Scatter review.

I fancied trying something new for my model basing, rather then just using the same old same old staic grass.  The thing is though..... i hate mixing things up to use, i done mix paints (i can never get the right colour) and im no good at multi layer basing, so i was looking for something that have a mix of all i want in one place, and i found it..........

I picked this up to give it a try due to its..............
