Star Trek Attack Wing USS Excelsior Unboxing

The Excelsior-class was a type of Federation starship used by Starfleet from the late 23rd century through the late 24th century. It was the backbone of Starfleet for nearly a century, making it one of the longest serving starship designs, and one of the most recognizable ships in the fleet.
The Excelsior is a great looking old workhorse, and a solid addition to the Federation fleet.
Inside the pack there are lots of good cards for this ship

Star Trek Attack Wing Mutara Nebula Khan vs Kirk Narrative Battle report

Today we have a battle report for you all to (hopefully) enjoy.  We watched the Wrath of Khan, and then decided to break out the mission from the USS Reliant.  The Mutara Nebula is the iconic battle in the film so we tooled up.  40 points is the limit per ship.  Olivia took the "goodies" the USS Enterprise with captain Spock (he gives a free target lock action) and Admiral Kirk as well you need Kirk, its not wrath of Khan without him.  To round out the ship she has scotty to deal with aux power, and fix the hull when needed.

I was in command with the USS Reliant, with Captain Khan and his talent I stab at thee (just in case I died I could get vengeance) Joachim to use his ability of drawing two crits and picking the best one, and a follower of Khan in case needed to mess up the Enterprise Crew.
Here is the mission, plenty of little rules and changes  from normal.  All comat takes place at range one, so this will be a knife fight.

We decided to use the table as the nebula board is smaller.  We set the ships up, and prepared for battle.

The Reman warbird Scimitar was a massive, heavily-armed warship. It was constructed under the command of Shinzon as part of a secret plot to overthrow the Romulan Senate, defeat the United Federation of Planets, and liberate the subjugated natives of Remus.
The Scimitar is a best of a ship in game as it should be, solid and powerful.... so lets see what comes in it.

Star Trek Attack Wing USS Reliant unboxing

The USS Reliant (NCC-1864) was a 23rd century Federation Miranda-class starship operated by Starfleet. In 2285, the Reliant was commanded by Captain Clark Terrell. While under his command, the ship's prefix code was 16309
On Stardate 8130, the Reliant approached the planet Ceti Alpha VI. During the scan of the planet, one of the Reliant's dynoscanners detected a "minor energy flux" on the surface on what seemed to otherwise be a prime location for the experiment. Hurried by the growing impatience their unsuccessful mission bore upon them, Captain Terrell and his first officer Pavel Chekov transported to the surface to investigate the energy flux, hoping that it was something they could "transplant" in advance of testing.
The landing party, however, instead discovered a group of exiles, led by Khan Noonien Singh. Khan and his followers quickly captured the two Starfleet officers and informed them that the planet Reliant was orbiting was not Ceti Alpha VI but actually Ceti Alpha V. Khan then took control of Terrell and Chekov through the use of Ceti eels and successfully commandeered the Reliant, marooning her crew on the planet's surface. Having learned of the Genesis Device, Khan pursued acquiring the secrets of the device that the Reliant was contracted to work for and took the Reliant to the Regula I space station.
Unable to get what he desired from the station crew, Khan used the Reliant to intercept Admiral Kirk and the USS Enterprise. In an ambush, the Reliant caused severe damage to the engineering section of the Enterprise, but Khan was unable to revel in his victory because the Reliant itself fell victim to a counter-ambush from the Enterprise after its crew managed to partially disable its defenses by accessing them through the Reliant's prefix code.
This attack caused moderate damage to the Reliant, including the loss of photon torpedo controls and the warp drive. Despite the damage the Reliant escaped, and returned to Regula where it hid behind the planetoid from Enterprise. Khan took up the pursuit shortly afterwards when hailed and taunted by Kirk into the Mutara Nebula.  An epic encounter in the film that is provided for in mission form here.
So what else is in the pack?

Narrative Gaming with Family.

I thought I would expand a bit more on one of the ways I get and keep Olivia's interest in gaming projects, since you have seen a few more games we play.

Narrative gaming.  For us its all about the story.  Linking it in, following it on.  In games like X-Wing when we play Olivia is following the story of who she has seen in the film, Luke and Chewie are her favourites.  she goes into great details of their new adventures, making suitable Chewie noises when she dodges.  Its a world she knows, so storytelling in it is easy.
In the world of Star Wars its very black and white between Good and Bad, and Olivia never likes to play the Baddies, she has watched Star Wars, she straight away knows who is good and who is bad, and then she finds who she likes within it from watching the films.
Im always stuck with the Empire when we play so she can recreate the battles between good and evil in a clear cut way in her head, and as you all know Chewie and the good guys nearly always win, and she wins against me, so it keeps it all in theme.  But what about other games? and other ways?...

Star Trek Attack Wing USS Hood unboxing

The USS Hood (NCC-42296) was an Excelsior-class battleship in service to Starfleet in the 23rd and 24th centuries.
Prior to Robert DeSoto assuming command, the ship was commanded by Ledbetter. When DeSoto replaced him, Ledbetter assumed command of the USS Yorktown.
In 2359, the Hood was ambushed in a surprise attack by several Sindareen raiders, but managed to destroy them all. The Hood was heavily damaged in the attack. Repairs were expected to take two to three months in dry dock, but were finished over a month ahead of schedule. At that time, Lieutenant William T. Riker was transferred to the ship to become its first officer.
The Hood is a prize ship from the latest tournament, and she is a beauty, with some good cards.  So lets dive in and see what you get.....

FTL Faster Than Light PC game Review

A video game review? yes.... that's right.  There are some I enjoy apart from tabletop gaming, so I thought I would also share them with you.

The player controls a faster-than-light (FTL) travel capable spacecraft belonging to the Galactic Federation, which is on the verge of collapse after losing a war with human-supremacist rebel forces. The player's crew intercepts a data packet from the rebel fleet containing information that could throw the rebels into disarray and ensure a Federation victory. The goal is to reach Federation headquarters, waiting several space sectors away, while avoiding destruction or capture by the pursuing rebels.

An interview with the new guy

So it appears as I'm hell bent on world domination you should all know a little bit about myself, so with out further delay here we go....

1.  How did you get into tabletop gaming?

I remember when I was 5 or 6 going into an old video games store (the store closed almost 15 years ago and is still vacant with the posters up) and seeing Gorkamorka for the first time. My dad bought it for the pair of us to play, little knowing that he had been a war gamer for nearly 20 years before then

2.  What are your top 3 favourite tabletop games and why?

Star Trek Attack Wing IRW Gal Gath'thong unboxing

In 2266, the Praetor's flagship was involved in the Neutral Zone Incursion with the Federation. The ship attacked several border outposts, destroying them utterly. The USS Enterprise responded to the alert and engaged in a tense game of cat-and-mouse with the intruder for more than ten hours, before the Bird-of-Prey was destroyed.  The ship was named after the Gal Gath'thong mountain range on Romulus.
Its a classic TOS era ship, and the Constitution needs some opponents, so who better then them?and the ship from one of the best episodes Balance of Terror.
So lets take a look and see if this can stand up in a fight!

Star Trek Attack Wing Enterprise NX-01 unboxing

One of the most important starships in interstellar history, Enterprise (NX-01) was the culmination of the NX Project. The NX-01 was the first NX-class starship, launched by the United Earth Starfleet in 2151. Enterprise established United Earth as a legitimate interstellar power and caused a wholesale revolution in Alpha and Beta Quadrant politics, paving the way for the creation of the Coalition of Planets in 2155, and eventually the United Federation of Planets in 2161.
Lets take a look and see what comes in the pack for the Federations first Warp 5 Ship.

An interview with the Behind Enemy lines podcast crew

I love to listen to gaming podcasts on my way to work and back, just pottering to the shops, anytime I can in fact.  And I recently came across a new favourite, and good friend to the blog, Behind enemy lines.  This is what they say....

Behind Enemy Lines is a podcast and blog about wargaming news, from industry leaders and indie games, to the wargaming community itself. Our goal is to help connect wargamers with the greater hobby, beyond any one gaming system because, let’s face it we’ve got gamer ADHD!
We’re located in Auckland, New Zealand, at the bottom of the world, but through the magic of the internet, we’re excited to be a part of the global wargaming community!

And this is what I say.... I love it.  I like the fact the guys chat about all sorts of game systems, not just focusing on one, great chat, and I have laughed multiple times listening to it.  It has news, reviews, gamer chat, listener questions, all sorts of fun and goings on. It sounds like guys having fun, and here at the Garage Gamers, we are all about gaming for fun!  So I thought it would be nice to get the guys to come over here, have a chat with us and shoot the breeze about gaming and all sorts!
so read on!
